[Note: If you haven’t watched World War Z yet and you intend to watch it, DON’T READ THIS.]
I haven’t read the book, but since some of my friends said that it’s pretty cool, I chose to watch it [July 3, 2013] :D. I didn’t expect much. [Halos lahat naman ng written stories na ginawang movies ay no match sa written version] But I guess it’s worth the price 🙂
The movie doesn’t still line up to my fave list. But I must admit, maganda ng pagkakagawa 😀 [at least for me]
Like what one of my friends said, I’m a little bit ‘critical’ when it comes to movies. Gusto ko kasi realistic. Yung tipong kahit fantasy siya or sci-fi or basta hindi realistic, mapapaniwala mo pa rin akong totoo sya. Gets mo? Of course, ikaw pa 😛
World War Z is an apocalyptic horror movie. Haha! Hindi ko yun inexpect. I usually search for some background and reviews before I watch a movie, but since it seemed like a good one, I decided to go for it without any idea what it is all about.
So there, I realized it’s a war against zombies. And Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), a former UN investigator, was asked to join the UN again to search for the cure/solution for the pandemic. And to cut the looooooong story short, he didn’t find the cure; however, he found how to CAMOUFLAGE.
The zombies do not attack seriously injured or terminally ill people since they are not suitable for viral reproduction. They were just after the healthy human beings. They’re choosy, you know 😛
And Gerry Lane just realized that after many observations during zombie attacks. And so, thru a dangerous experiment, he tried to inject a curable pathogen to his own body and see if he wouldn’t be attractive to zombies anymore. And boom! He succeeded.
There wasn’t any cure, HOWEVER, they could camouflage.
After watching the movie, I remember Paul and what he said in his first letter to the Corinth..
“To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law. To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. To weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.” – 1Corinthians 9:20-22
The standard: Do not blend in, STAND OUT.
But for the sake of the gospel, Paul went to different direction. Not because he wanted to be different, but instead, he wanted to become ‘one of them’. Like Gerry Lane in the movie, he chose to be like them, infected with some virus so that he won’t be one of the victims. He chose to be like them so that he can also go near them and eventually, hopefully, kill them. In the case of Paul, it’s not killing people he was after to, but killing the devil inside each person he came across with by sharing the love of Jesus. And one strong way they’ve both found out is.. CAMOUFLAGE.
Sometimes in order to WIN, we have to first BLEND IN.
